Park Slope is a neighborhood of families, and Sunday is when they gather. At Scottadito Osteria Toscana on Union Street, Sunday means a long weekend brunch, an early family dinner, and plates passed across the table the way they are in Tuscany. We've been a family-owned neighborhood restaurant since 2004 — the Brooklyn Daily Eagle once described the feel here as "a familial atmosphere" — and three generations at one table is a normal Sunday for us.
How Sunday Works at Scottadito
Brunch: Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 3:30 pm.
Dinner: Sunday, 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm (and Wednesday through Saturday).
Where: 788A Union Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215 — a short walk from Prospect Park.
The Post-Park Sunday Brunch
A lot of our Sunday regulars come straight from the playground or a loop around Prospect Park. Brunch is built for that: every entrée comes with unlimited champagne or mimosas for the grown-ups ($35.95 per adult brunch entrée), and there's plenty for kids.
For kids: buttermilk pancakes (plain or chocolate chip), Pane Dolce al Frutti di Bosco (French toast with fresh fruit and organic maple syrup), or two eggs any style with potatoes.
For adults: Uova Benedette with prosciutto, the Frittata con Vegetali, or our famous Gnocchetti di Spinaci.
For the table: sides of potato hash, mixed berries, bacon or sausage to share.
Brunch seatings run about an hour and a half, so it's easy to fit around nap time. See our bottomless brunch guide for the drinks.
Sunday Dinner, Family-Style
The best way to eat at Scottadito with a group is the Tuscan way: order for the middle of the table and share. A family-style order for four to six might look like this:
To start: the Affettati Misti board of Italian meats and cheeses, a Caprese, and the KIM salad.
Pizzette for the kids' end of the table: a Margherita and a Genovese — any pizzetta can be made gluten-free.
Pastas to pass: Spaghetti Pomodoro with Mamma's meatballs, Pappardelle Scottadito with turkey ragout, and Orecchiette Pugliese.
A main or two for the grown-ups: Pollo Parmigiana, Casserola di Pollo e Salsiccia, or the grilled hanger steak.
Multi-Generational Dinners
Grandparents get a quieter, unhurried meal; kids get pasta and pizza; parents get a glass of Chianti. Our dining room is warm and relaxed rather than stiff, and the menu has something for every age and diet, including gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options (see our dietary guide). For a bigger family occasion — a birthday, a christening lunch, a reunion — ask about our private event spaces and menus.
